Stacey Kingma, 2006 Winner, said "The Light of the Flame Scholarship saved my life this semester. I have had little time to work between student teaching and school work. I may have had to give up my membership. I have now been able to stay involved with Delta Zeta through this busy time of my life."
Lauren Mussin , 2006 Winner, added "I am so appreciative to the Alumnae who have come together to make this scholarship possible. It means a lot that you take the time to continue to support your active sisters by affording us this generous scholarship. My sisters never cease to amaze me with their acts of kindness and generosity. Thank you so much!"

Thoughts from 2007 Winner, Lauren Bettcher :
"...this scholarship was my chance to start taking control of my own finances. It has been an interesting year in doing so, but with the help and support of my friends, family, sisters, and this scholarship, I have been able to work a little bit during the school year to pay for my rent and bills without necessarily having to worry about my Delta Zeta dues. My level of financial independence is slowing rising, and it is incredible to have the help of this scholarship. I am currently becoming much more aware of my spending habits and am starting to rationalize what it means to save money for necessities, not wants...The second part of the scholarship was explaining what sisterhood meant to me; last year it revolved around the ever-popular "From the outside looking in" quote. This quote has blossomed into full effect after, what I feel is the true meaning of sisterhood, hit me full blast just last week. I came to realize that as a biological sister to two younger brothers, I have never HAD a sister. But as I saw my Delta Zeta sister on campus one day, and in a rush she asked if I could pass something along to another sister without an upbeat "HI!" or "How are you today?", it hit me that these girls have become my sisters; yes, we'll say "hi" and "how are you", but that unspoken understanding of helping someone out without formalities or help in return is truly how sisterhood forms. When my younger brothers and I are together, we act differently than friends do. It's an inexplicable bond that only siblings understand. And I'm so incredibly amazed at how this form of relationship has transferred to my close sisters and that I have come to realize they are my sisters, true to the word. I thank you and the rest of the scholarship committee again for giving me the opportunity to not only apply, but accept the Light Of The Flame Scholarship last year. It was not only a financial means of support, but also a realization that there is a "sisterness" about us; and there's no price tag for that bond."

Liz Bishop, 2007 Winner writes "Winning this scholarship meant more to me than I can even explain. Delta Zeta is something that I could easily take for granted, especially since I didn't have the financial "reminder" that I am a member every month. Now, with an E-board position secured, I've picked up a lot of responsibilities and greatly strengthened my friendships. I have been able to contribute financially to Relay for Life as well as the Walk for Hearing with what would have been my dues money. Not having that added stress and worry about money has made me a better sister. I am very grateful to all who contributed to the scholarship and plan on contributing myself when I become an alumnae."
